Improving the Accuracy and Efficiency of Demand Calibration for Dynamic Traffic Models KU Leuven
Dynamic traffic assignment models involve hundreds of unknown parameters and consume considerable time for computation. Besides, the calibration process, which tries to calibrate demand (and supply) parameters to match the simulation output with real observations, is both methodologically and computationally challenging. Considering availability of the input data and field observations, the core of the OD (Origin-Destination) estimation is ...
Development of mathematical pilot models for fast-time ship manoeuvring simulation and traffic planning for harbour approach channels Ghent University
Ship manoeuvring simulation is widely applied when designing new navigation areas and for assessing channel safety. The research project uses intelligent control algorithms to develop a novel mathematical pilot model for fast-time manoeuvring simulations in complex situations and for shipping traffic planning. The results will be applied to selected cases in Flemish harbours and channels and in Chinese navigation areas.

Conflict Prevention Strategies for Real-time Railway Traffic Management KU Leuven
Train timetables are built such that trains can drive without any delay. However, in real-time, unexpected events such as overcrowded platforms or small mechanical defects can cause conflicts, i.e., two trains requiring the same part of the infrastructure at the same time. Currently, such conflicts are typically resolved by experienced dispatchers. However, it is impossible for them to fully anticipate the impact of their actions on the ...

Traffic Analysis Resistant Privacy Enhancing Technologies. KU Leuven
This project will focus on systematizing the modeling, analysis and design of TAR systems. The main applications to be considered are: anonymous communications systems, location privacy technologies, privacy preserving social networking, and web search. Our goals are
- to model and formalize TAR properties, mechanisms, and threats in these diverse application domains
- to study trac data leakages and identify the key features ...
