Implementation of alternative sampling strategies as a tool for studying the etiology and for improving the therapy of Nodding syndrome Ghent University
Nodding syndrome is an unexplained, generalized seizure disorder, typically affecting 5-15y old children in subregions of sub-Saharan Africa. We aim at gaining new insights and improving therapy by applying alternative sampling strategies: dried blood spots will be used for therapeutic drug monitoring of antiepileptics, while dried urine spots and hair will be used for validating existing and finding new biomarkers.
