Stand Up, Stay Top - a theory-based mHealth intervention aimed at the reduction of sedentary behavior in older adults Ghent University
The population of older adults is expected to increase considerably in the coming decades. This increase poses a major public health challenge, as aging is associated with a reduction in physical and cognitive functioning. The decline impedes older adults to live independently, and to maintain their quality-of-life. As a result, the demand for health care will rise dramatically. Emerging evidence shows that sedentary behavior contributes to ...
Towards theory-Âbased behavioral interventions to improve early initiation of palliative care in people with cancer: application of the Theory of Planned Behavior Ghent University
Palliative care (PC) is often initiated too late. Theory-Âbased behavioral interventions that improve early initiation of PC in the disease course are necessary. A desired patient behavior is to bring up PC with the family physician. The aim of this project is 1) to identify determinants affecting the
desired patient behavior, and 2) to systematically develop a theoretically-Âbased behavioral intervention.
Behavioral Economics in Education KU Leuven
The human capital theory predicts that more educated persons tend to earn higher wages. This PhD research project studies how insights from behavioral economics can be employed in education. To examine the role and effectivenes of behavioral tools, we run large scale randomized controlled trials in Flemish secondary schools, as well as on the online platform www.gonna.be. In the former, we study how and which insights from behavioral ...
Effectiveness of feedback and need-supportive coaching on physical activity among working adults: Validation of a multisensory activity device and evaluation of an intervention KU Leuven
The current physical activity (PA) recommendations advise adults toperform moderate-intensity aerobic PA for a minimum of 30 minutes five days a week or vigorous-intensity aerobic activity for a minimum of 20 minutes three days a week. Despite many evidence supporting PA for the prevention and management of several health problems such as metabolic disorders, cardiovascular disease and certain forms of cancer, 41% of the Belgian population ...
Stand Up, Stay Top! Tackling sedentary behavior in older adults through a feedback-based intervention Ghent University
The population of older adults is expected to increase considerably in the coming decades. This increase poses a major public health challenge, as aging is associated with a reduction in physical and cognitive functioning and health-related quality-of-life.
Decreasing sedentary behavior – or sitting – might be a promising strategy to foster healthy aging. Yet, few interventions have targeted older adults’ sedentary behavior. Moreover, ...
Looking through the eyes of young cyclists: large-scale evaluation of a comprehensive theory- and evidence-based online intervention targeting traffic safety behaviour. Hasselt University
Developing an M-health intervention for type 2 diabetics: a better understanding of how and for whom this technology can work. Ghent University
Within this research project a mobile intervention will be developed for type 2 diabetics. This intervention will be based on the Self Determination Theory and will motivate them to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Besides investigating how the intervention influences patients’ health behaviors, mediating and moderating variables will also be identified.
Behavioural change based on the self-categorisation theory: promotion of physical activity among sedentary older adults (intervention study among older adults on intrinsic and social determinants of physical activity and health-related behaviour). KU Leuven
TIME for change in health promotion research: a focus on the DYNAMIC nature of individual and environmental determinants of physical activity and sedentary time Ghent University
Engaging in sufficient physical activity (PA) and limiting sedentary time (ST) have major physical and mental health benefits Despite many previous theory-based interventions, the population prevalence of physical inactivity and ST remains high Three major shortcomings of previous behavior change interventions are (1) they do not consider the dynamic (time- and context-varying) nature of determinants, (2) they neglect the role of the ...
