Investigating the potential of the (peri-)urban dairy chain for sustainable intensification of smallholder dairy farming in the Tigray zone of northern Ethiopia. Ghent University
The smallholder dairy sector in the peri-urban areas of the Tigray zone has not yet developed to its potential while demand is not met by local supply. This PhD study will focus on how inclusive business models in trade contracts and cooperative systems could enhance access of cattle holders to both feed supply and outlet markets and create a conducive production environment.
Sustainable and human-centric process management for smart manufacturing KU Leuven
The role of investor stewardship on the path towards sustainable European Companies KU Leuven
While a large part of the EU’s sustainable finance strategy and its 2018 Action Plan has focused on regulating green financial products, less attention has been paid to the important relationship between companies and their shareholders. The Shareholders Rights Directive II (SRD II) was amended in 2017 to promote investor’s engagement and support long-term, sustainable shareholdership. It is unclear if the tools the current Directive provides ...
Sustainable lubrication by novel ionic liquids Ghent University
The project aims at investigating friction and wear reduction in lubricated contacts of non ferrous lightweight materials and coatings. The mechanisms behind enhanced performance of boundary tribofilms formed by novel halogen gree, non-corrosive ionic liquids will be studied. The influence of different parameters such as materials, geometry, load, speed will be examined.
Sustainable Material processing for Manufacturing KU Leuven
Modelling, analysis and control of microbial populations for sustainable nitrogen removal from wastewater Ghent University
In this research project, the diversity of microbial communities and their interaction with the applied control strategies in reactors for biological nitrogen removal is studied. The main objectives are: - the incorporation of microbial diversity in mathematical models - the application of mathematical techniques to analyse biological processes - the addition of microbial population optimization as a new aspect to the control of nitrogen ...
Sustainable Materials Management in a circular economy Ghent University
The Policy Research Center Circular Economy conducts policy-relevant research in the context of the circular economy and brings together researchers from KU Leuven, UGent, UAntwerpen and VITO. The Policy Research Center builds on the research results of the previous Support Center SuMMa that was active from 2012 to 2016.
