Analysis and Mapping of Rainfall-Induced Landslide Susceptibility in A Luoi District, Thua Thien Hue Province, Vietnam Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Rainfall-induced landslides form an important natural threat in Vietnam. The purpose of this study is to explore regional landslide susceptibility mapping in the mountainous district of A Luoi in Thua Thien Hue Province, where data on the occurrence and causes of landslides are very limited. Three methods are applied to examine landslide susceptibility: statistical index, logistic regression and certainty factor. Nine causative factors are ...

Variation of diazinon and amitraz susceptibility of Hyalomma marginatum (Acari: Ixodidae) in the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region of Morocco Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Ghent University
In the present study, the acaricide susceptibility status of Hyalomma marginatum in Morocco was investigated in the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region using the Larval Packet Test. The overall LC50 value for diazinon and amitraz was 115 ppm (95% CI: [104; 125]) and 22 ppm (95% CI: [21; 23]), respectively. The LC50 values varied significantly between the nine sampled locations (P<0.001) ranging from 75 ppm (95% CI: [65; 84]) in Ouelmes to 179 ppm ...
Susceptibility of pancreatic beta cells to fatty acids is regulated by LXR/PPARα-dependent stearoyl-coenzyme a desaturase Vrije Universiteit Brussel KU Leuven
Chronically elevated levels of fatty acids-FA can cause beta cell death in vitro. Beta cells vary in their individual susceptibility to FA-toxicity. Rat beta cells were previously shown to better resist FA-toxicity in conditions that increased triglyceride formation or mitochondrial and peroxisomal FA-oxidation, possibly reducing cytoplasmic levels of toxic FA-moieties. We now show that stearoyl-CoA desaturase-SCD is involved in this ...
