The energy absorption assessment of composite structures for protection of civil engineering structures against blast loading Ghent University
In this project, the energy absorption behaviour of composite structures is studied under blast loading. Composite tubes are placed in between two fire-resistant glass/IPC face sheets. The skins transfer the shock wave to the tubes that absorb the energy. Both laboratory and full-scale explosion tests will be done.
High resolution structure determination of therapeutically relevant proteins as a means to validate an affinity grid for cryo-electron microscopy. University of Antwerp
Effects of the chemical structure of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on the bioaccumulation and toxicity to terrestrial and aquatic plants and invertebrates. University of Antwerp
Estimating a real term structure (ERTS). University of Antwerp
Controlling the molecular structure of biocompatible hydrogels by combining PAOxylation chemistry and Monte Carlo stochastic tools. Ghent University
Hydrogels are three-dimensional networks of cross-linked hydrophilic copolymers. Their viscoelastic properties can be tailored by adjusting the chemical composition of the copolymers which build up the hydrogel. Poly(oxazoline)s (POx) are a class of low dispersity polymers. The poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) is biocompatible, stealthy and non-toxic, which makes this hydrophilic polymer, as well as POx hydrogels interesting for various biomedical ...
Structure from Semantics KU Leuven
The SfS project (Structure from Semantics) aims at developing a novel approach to 3D reconstruction, starting from a single RGB image as input. This new approach is completely semantics-driven: by analysing the image content, recognizing and localizing the objects therein, an estimate of the 3D of the whole scene will be obtained, building on a large dataset of 3D object category models that can be fitted to the objects depicted in the image. ...
Advances in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy for the structure elucidation of water-extractable and water-unextractable arabinoxylan from wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) flour KU Leuven
The consumption of dietary fiber is associated with several health benefits. As a staple crop, wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is a major source of dietary fiber in the diet of a large portion of the world population.
The predominant dietary fiber in wheat is arabinoxylan (AX). It consists of a linear backbone of β-(1,4)-linked ß-D-xylopyranosyl (xylose) residues that can be unsubstituted (uXyl), mono-substituted (mXyl) or ...
Structure and magnetism of metastable y-Fe nanoparticles in SrTiO3 KU Leuven
Iron (Fe), one of the most abundant elements on Earth, can appear in different structural phases associated with contrasting magnetic properties, depending on temperature and pressure. The most common phase is a-Fe, which has a body-centered cubic (bcc) structure and is ferromagnetic. Another iron allotrope, y-Fe, a high temperature phase in bulk, has a face-centered cubic structure (fcc). However, this iron allotrope has been stabilized at ...
