Microbiota modulation strategies in Inflammatory Bowel Disease management KU Leuven
Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), mainly Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), are chronic disorders. These disorders are proposed to be the result of an inappropriate immune response against the intestinal microbial flora in genetic susceptible hosts, although the exact pathogenesis is still unknown. CD and UC cause serious and unpredictable healthcare problems, such as rectal bleeding, persistent diarrhea and abdominal cramps ...
Developing Deltas, Developing Opportunities. Landscape based strategies for water management and socio-envrionmental justice KU Leuven
Water management in delta cities has been widely discussed. Strategies have shifted from relying on engineered-based solutions alone, to more resilient approaches that integrate water management and urban design. There is considerable international scientific research on this regard to achieve less vulnerable, more resilient and adaptive delta cities. Conflict Prevention Strategies for Real-time Railway Traffic Management KU Leuven
Train timetables are built such that trains can drive without any delay. However, in real-time, unexpected events such as overcrowded platforms or small mechanical defects can cause conflicts, i.e., two trains requiring the same part of the infrastructure at the same time. Currently, such conflicts are typically resolved by experienced dispatchers. However, it is impossible for them to fully anticipate the impact of their actions on the ...

A cluster project on Water Management in a changing Climate, Adaptationto new conditions, and Promotion of new strategies Ghent University
Historical hydrological patterns can no longer be solely relied upon to forecast the water future. Having realised this, a new paradigm for water management is needed. WaterCAP provides recommendations for future implementation of directives affected by changed climate. The cluster will focus on recommendations relevant to the policymakers on: 1) Water quantity/quality issues, 2) Impact analysis to predict climate change impacts on different ...
