The research project focusses on the changes in Roman bathing habits between the 3rd and 7th century AD in Italy and North-Africa. the emhasis is put on public bathing facilities in an urban environmen: how they changed on an architectural and technical level, how they were re-used and how the communal bathing habit disappeared in large parts of Europe after the Roman era.
