Do particle verbs share a representation with their root verbs? Evidence from structural priming Ghent University
Children's verbal explanations of their visual representation of the music University of Antwerp Ghent University
Recent findings in music research are increasingly confirming the embodied nature of music cognition. Assuming that a bodily engagement with music may affect the children's musical meaning formation, we investigated how young children's interaction with music, based on verbal description after listening versus body movement description while listening, may be reflected in the verbal explanation of their own visual representations of the music ...
Fractal analysis of urban catchments and their representation in semi-distributed models: imperviousness and sewer system KU Leuven
Fractal analysis relies on scale invariance and the concept of fractal dimension enables one to characterize and quantify the space filled by a geometrical set exhibiting complex and tortuous patterns. Fractal tools have been widely used in hydrology but seldom in the specific context of urban hydrology. In this paper, fractal tools are used to analyse surface and sewer data from 10 urban or peri-urban catchments located in five European ...
Determining the Pulsed EM Radiation Characteristics of Thin Planar Antennas from Their Thevenin Network Representation KU Leuven
Thévenin's network representation of a thin planar antenna is derived using the Lorentz reciprocity theorem of the time-convolution type. The relation of the corresponding network quantities to the pulsed electromagnetic (EM) field radiation characteristics is given. The main results are numerically validated using a full-wave EM solver.
Fénelon’s operatic novel: audiovisual topoi in Télémaque and their representation in opera Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Fénelon’s Télémaque underwent numerous operatic adaptations. The present essay aims to explore and explain the novel’s striking afterlife on the lyric stage. By comparing the ‘Calypso’ episode with selected operas on Telemachian and non-Telemachian subjects, it points out the extent to which Fénelon’s novel can be considered operatic by its own nature, in that its narrative provides such a complete ‘scenario’ that its musico-dramatic rendering ...

Moorhens have an internal representation of their own eggs University of Antwerp
How do birds recognize their own eggs? Do they have a stored template for their own egg characteristics, or do they use another mechanism? Intraspecific brood parasitism is considered to be an additional reproductive tactic where females can increase their own reproductive success. Because of the costs involved in rearing young that are not their own, it will pay females to detect and reject the eggs of a parasite, although it is not known how ...
