RECOVER@HOME - Recovery from disability after geriatric home-rehabilitation versus standard of care: a randomised, multicentre, parallel group pragmatic trial in older patients with disability at hospital discharge. KU Leuven
Older patients who are hospitalised often experience disability, meaning dependence in activities of daily living such as washing, bathing, mobility, or shopping. Yet once discharged, most patients do not receive the follow-up care. As a result, patients need more assistance of informal and formal caregivers, they experience a lower quality of life, and have a higher risk for hospital readmission and nursing home admission.

Congo basin eco-climatological data recovery and valorisation (COBECORE) Ghent University
In this four year project COBECORE will develop a multi-faceted database, by making the static analog archives of the Institut National pour lU+2019Etude Agronomique du Congo belge (INEAC) digitally accessible in addition to extracting eco-physiological relevant plant traits from historical herbarium specimens. PRODEX-11 - Urine Nitrification in Space - URINIS-A phase 2 Ghent University
Nutrient, carbon and water recycling is crucial for life support in long-term Space missions with no or limited opportunity for resupply. Protein (and hence nitrogen) is an essential component of the crew diet (15-17 g N / d / person). The Micro-Ecological Life Support System Alternative (MELiSSA) developed by ESA, aims at providing proteinaceous food via vegetable crops and edible microbes (e.g. cyanobacteria). To produce this ...
Forecasting and management of extreme rainfall induced risks in the urban environment. KU Leuven

Extreme local rain storms may induce severe floods and related socio-economic impacts on the urban environment (Belgian cities). While floods along rivers have been studied already extensively, quantification, forecasting, control and management of inundations along sewer systems and urban rivers have to face particular difficulties. They need fine-scale (local, short duration) rainfall estimation and nowcasting (= short-term ...
