Poloidal rotation and turbulence suppression in JET plasmas Ghent University
Nuclear fusion is a potential alternative for large scale electricity production. Poloidal rotation will be studied in plasma scenarios with improved confinement. Poloidal and toroidal plasma rotation contribute to the total radial electric field and the ExB shearing rate (wExB) in magnetically confined plasmas. An increased wExB is believed to stabilise turbulence by tearing apart turbulence eddies and improve the confinement.
APLP2 regulates neuronal stem cell differentiation during cortical development KU Leuven
Human amyloid precursor protein (APP) belongs to a gene family that codes for type I trans-membrane proteins in different species, including fruit flies, roundworms and mice. Amyloid Precursor-like Protein1 and 2 (APLP1 and APLP2) are the two other mammalian members of this gene family. Like APP, APLP1 and APLP2 are transmembrane proteins with a large extracellular N-terminal domain and short cytoplasmic C-terminal fragment. Another ...

Cooperation within the framework of IWT / R & D 060 432: Art Press II: Pre-clinical proof-of-concept of an optical arterial monitoring instrument Ghent University
The project aims to explore the feasibility of non-invasive optical technologies beeldborming of blood vessels and has the following objectives: - Research on the maximum achievable depth of imaging. The main superficial arteries (femoral artery, radial, brachial) may lie at a depth of 8mm, other applications are microvascular, arterioles and veins. The objective is to develop a technique to 8mm depth portrays, but if the image is limited to ...
Deradicalizing the city KU Leuven
This doctoral research project is part of a larger project that investigates how (1) notions of 'urban security' are influenced and transformed by the 'war on terror' and the fight against radicalisation and (2) what impact this has on notions of connectedness and (in)security among the residents of the targeted neighbourhoods. The neighbourhoods that are at the heart of this project have been subjected to intense policing, media interest, ...
