Genetic alterations in the ALK receptor tyrosine kinase gene are related to the development and the acquisition of therapy resistance of various cancers, among which neuroblastoma, a common pediatric malignancy. This project aims to characterize the function of the oncogenic transcription factor ETV5 in ALK driven tumor formation and to establish new frontiers for the development of ALK downstream oriented targeted therapies.
The long-term survival of high-risk neuroblastoma patients has not improved substantially in recent decades and thus remains the leading cause of death by cancer in the age group 1-4 years.
Moreover, current treatment is very harsh and toxic, causing severe short and long term side effects. Therefore, the search for more effective and less toxic targeted drugs remains at the forefront of neuroblastoma research. In the era of emerging ...
Neuroblastoma (NB) is a lethal tumor of childhood for which therapy has improved little over the past decades and which is assumed to benefit from insights into perturbed signaling pathways. Recently, ALK was discovered as a drugable oncogene in NB. Currently, clinical trials have been initiated in order to evaluate the efficacy of these compounds. However, our currently insights in the perturbed signaling down stream of ALK is limited as is ...
Finger millet varieties will be screened for resistance against dominant plant-parasitic nematodes. Pot-experiments will be executed to quantify the symptoms and the damage to the plant at different nematode inoculum
levels. The potential of priming to promote plant defense against nematodes will be analyzed at molecular level and via field trials.
The envisioned research program focusses on key topics related to the experience of light and color in realistic scenes. This is important from a fundamental scientific point of view and also because of the widespread use of color in technology and industry. The program has four interrelated research lines (RL): RL1 will study color matching and its variability amongst observers. RL2 will tackle the impact of context on color appearance. RL3 ...
