Coping with red tape: How cultural, organizational and individual variables mitigate red tape’s negative impact on street-level bureaucrats’ wellbeing. Ghent University
Red tape is one of the biggest challenges confronting contemporary public organizations. Organizational rules that hold a compliance burden, but miss functionality, can be classified as red tape. Recent studies claim that red tape negatively impacts the wellbeing of street-level bureaucrats such as teachers or nurses. But while this claim is backed up by more and more empirical research, the actual impact of red tape on wellbeing differs ...
Code Red. A key to the re-classification of African Red Slip Ware Ghent University
African Red Slip Ware (ARS) was produced from the 1st to the 7th century AD in the Roman provinces of modern-day Tunisia, Algeria, and Libya and exported to the whole Mediterranean on a massive scale. Its abundance at innumerable archaeological sites has led to a vast diversity of approaches. Whereas it is commonly clear which sherd is ARS and which is not, the detailed classification of ARS is still controversially discussed, thus, ...
The impact of red tape on the well-being and performance of employees in the public sector Ghent University
Red tape has become a major problem in public organizations around the world. Rules that entail a compliance burden, but lack functionality, can be categorized as red tape. Previous research has shown that red tape negatively influences employees in different areas. The claim that public services can be hindered by red tape has become a central topic in public administration research. This claim has been supported by empirical evidence that ...

Influence of (processed) red meat on colon cancer: a new in vitro approach Ghent University
Meat is a valuable nutrient source. Yet, epidemiological studies have revealed the colon cancer inducing effect of red and processed meat products. Therefore, the Superior Health Council has recommended to restrict red and processed meat consumption. Mechanisms behind this effect are still not fully understood, and especially the impact of the colonic environment on later stages of colon cancer progression is not well explored. In this ...
Photooxidation of antibiotics in multiphase flow in a microreactor by using visible-light active red mud-based geopolymers KU Leuven
Removing antibiotics from wastewater requires further attention because of a continuously increased pollution level. One of the prominent ways to remove antibiotics is through advanced oxidation processes that are primarily performed in batch reactors. Batch reactors suffer from poor mass and photon transfer, which is especially problematic for photocatalytic oxidation processes as this strongly limits the efficacy of the process. ...
Too wrapped up? On the effects of red tape on collaborative innovation KU Leuven
Collaborative innovation is currently high on the agenda of governments worldwide as a promising tool to deal with wicked problems. While many practitioners wonder how to best realize the potential of collaborative innovations, there is a firm belief that collaborative innovation is a powerful tool to deal with wicked problems and ever-growing expectations of citizens. Yet how this is best managed is unclear, especially at the organizational ...
an integrated approach based on metabolic and toxicological profiling to investigate the association between the digestion of red meat and the development of colon cancer. Ghent University
Epidemiological research has demonstrated that the consumption of red meat is associated with the development of colon cancer. This will be investigated by adding meat digests to colon cell lines and mapping the observed metabolic changes. The obtained results will be validated in rats and finally certain protective compounds will be tested in vitro.
