Polypharmacy and medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) radiological analysis to support early-stage diagnosis KU Leuven
The overall aim of this Ph.D. project is to evaluate the impact of polypharmacy on wound healing impairment following tooth extraction. The main objectives dealt within the different parts of this thesis are:
Part 1. To systematically search for scientific evidence related to the association between non-AR medications and MRONJ as well as to perform meta-analysis of the available outcome data.
Part 2. To systematically assess ...

EHRA-PATHS : Addressing multimorbidity in elderly atrial fibrillation patients through interdisciplinary, tailored, patient-centered care pathways Hasselt University
Atrial fibrillation integrated approach in frail, multimorbid, and polymedicated older people Ghent University
Multimorbidity is a common condition in older age, and can substantially influence individuals’ health and quality of life, making management more difficult. A single-disease approach with fragmented care is still prevalent in current healthcare systems despite multimorbidity representing a heterogeneous spectrum of disease combination(s). On this background, the novel approach underpinning the AFFIRMO project is to focus on clusters of ...
Rational antithrombotic use in an atrial fibrillation population. Ghent University
The aim of my project is to study rational antithrombotic use in terms of effectiveness and safety in a real-life population with atrial fibrillation. By studying the use and impact of antithrombotics in clinical practice, we want to unravel determinants of treatment success in terms of prevention of thromboembolisms and bleeding complications in a general population with multimorbidity and polypharmacy.

Geriatrics and traumato co-managing fragility fractures: effectiveness and success of implementation in a single centre setting KU Leuven
Background: Osteoporosis is the most common musculoskeletal disease and predisposes to fractures, most common of hip, spine, proximal humerus, pelvis and wrist. These fragility fractures are associated with pain, disability, need for institutionalization and even death. The complex needs of the older fracture patient with multimorbidity, polypharmacy and geriatric syndromes require a holistic, multidisciplinary approach. This is the expertise ...

Optimizing medical-pharmaceutical care to reduce hospital readmissions in older adults KU Leuven
Inappropriate prescribing in older adults is regarded as a major and urgent healthcare problem. It has been associated with a substantial burden of iatrogenic morbidity, including adverse drug events. In particular older adults are regularly admitted to the hospital due to a multitude of drug-related problems, including the underuse of indicated therapies. A large part of these admissions is considered to be avoidable. After hospital ...
