A compact low cost cooling stage for lab based X-Ray micro-CT setups University of Antwerp KU Leuven Ghent University
A temperature controlled sample stage, which can both heat up, and cool down a sample while it is subjected to a mu CT scan has been developed. The stage was designed to reach temperatures up to 50 degrees C and down to -20 degrees C and has been used in several applications with a varying degree of dynamism, going from immobilizing samples by freezing them to studying fully dynamically evolving temperature dependent processes.
Using communication accommodation theory to analyse language-discordant nurse-patient interactions: implications for applied linguistic design University of Antwerp
Language-discordance in healthcare communication can adversely affect patient treatment and care.[1] Where problems associated specifically with language-discordant nursing communication are concerned, the design of extant language and communication programme for nursing professionals in second language (L2) communication contexts have been criticised for their lack of a solid, theoretical foundations.[2,3] In order to begin to fill this gap, ...
The influence of ownership on the sustainable use of product-service systems University of Antwerp KU Leuven
The evolution towards sustainable product service systems introduces a new relationship between product and user in PSS, where we see that the user no longer is the legal owner of the product. This article reports upon an exploration of the psychological relationship between consumer and product within the context of PSS, and addresses the way a shift in ownership influences consumers perception. A literature review was needed towards the ...
Decoupled PID control with gain adaptation for a cycling dynamic knee rig University of Antwerp Ghent University
This paper presents the deployment and validation of a control structure for a dynamic knee rig used to gain insight into the kinematics and kinetics of the human knee joint. The dynamic knee rig is able to implement a bicycle motion onto the knee joint using five different actuators. Two actuators control the position of the ankle, one actuator mimics the quadriceps force and two more actuators impose the hamstring forces. Identification of the ...
Low cost automated setup for fringe projection profilometry University of Antwerp
Fringe pattern profilometry (FPP) has become one of the most used non-contact techniques to reconstruct three-dimensional object surfaces. This technique has several applications in different areas as for example: biomedical, such as 3D intra-oral dental measurements, human body shape measurement, inspection of wounds, skin topography; industrial and science applications such as vibration analysis, surface deformation, among others. A fully ...
Transformer core vibration measurements by means of laser scanning vibrometer University of Antwerp Ghent University
A major part of the transformer noise and vibrations comes from the deformation of the magnetoelastic material of the transformer core. In this work the vibrations of a test transformer core are measured by means of a laser scanning vibrometer. Due to the presence of the higher harmonics in the grid voltage, in addition to a purely sinusoidal magnetisation of the core the presence of a third harmonic is also studied. The vibrations of three ...
Defining geometrical position information of a thermal camera and object curvatures using thermography University of Antwerp
In non-destructive evaluation, the use of finite element models to evaluate structural behavior and experimental setup optimization can complement with the inspectors measurement experience. With the use of a finite element model, the assumption of a predefined sound area is superfluous. The use of thermography data for finite element model updating delivers the need for correct mapping of the thermal information out of the IR-camera on the ...
Low-cost automated system for phase-shifting and phase retrieval based on the tunability of a laser diode University of Antwerp
A low-cost and fully automated process for phase-shifting interferometry by continuously changing and turning on-off the input voltage of a laser diode under the scheme of an unbalanced Twyman-Green interferometer setup is presented. The input signal of a laser diode is controlled by a Data Acquisition (NI-DAQ) device which permits to change its wavelength according to its tunability features. The automation and data analysis will be done using ...
The feasibility of wireless power transfer integration in contemporary furniture University of Antwerp KU Leuven
A range of furniture pieces which allow inductive charging of low power devices have entered the market. Usually, the wireless charger module is cut through the furniture surface. As a consequence, the surface is not entirely smooth, which is aesthetically a disadvantage. It would be preferable if the wireless charger would be invisible, implying integration underneath the surface of the furniture. In this paper, we study the feasibility of ...
