Structural, Optical and Chemical Properties of Few-Atom Silver Clusters Confined in Zeolites KU Leuven
The unique physiochemical properties of metals have contributed to several areas of extensive research relating to energy, environment, and medicine in the past few decades. Metal clusters (size < 2nm) are ensembles of two to several hundred metal atoms that have received increasing attention due to their unique size and shape dependent chemical, optical, electrical, and magnetic properties. From various metal clusters reported to date, ...
Second-Order Nonlinear Optical Properties of Metal Based Molecular Switches, Bridging Theory and Experiment. KU Leuven
Optics, the science of the interaction of light with matter, has become ubiquitous in our society. Light is propagating in the form of photons over optical fibers, very much as electricity in the form of electrons, is transported over electrical conductors. Indeed, photonics is the technology platform that relies on the manipulation of photons, rather than electrons in electronics. Nonlinear optics (NLO) is a sub-field describing all optical ...

Optical and photonic properties of perovskite waveguides and lightemitting devices KU Leuven
Perovskite semiconductors hold large promise for opto-electronic applications such as solar cells and light-emitting diodes (LEDs). In just a few years of research, perovskite LEDs have reached an external quantum efficiency of about 20%, almost at par with incumbent technologies. By optical pumping, it has been established that the threshold power needed to observe amplified spontaneous emission and obtain lasing is as low as for other ...
Second- and Third-Order Nonlinear Optical Properties of Noble Metal Clusters KU Leuven
Small metal nanoparticles, composed of several tens of metal atoms, show size-dependent properties. The nanoparticles, or clusters, bridge the gap between small molecules and the metallic state. While historically a domain of solid state physics, noble metal cluster chemistry has evolved into a widely studied field in chemistry. This is due to the development of wet-chemical methods to stabilize clusters in solution with ligands. For gold ...

Study of the linear and nonlinear optical and electro-optical properties of 2D crystal monolayers by using the strong matter-light interaction in high index contrast photonic platforms. Ghent University
The nonlinear optical and photoluminescence properties of graphene and other 2D monolayer crystals will be investigated. To increase light-matter interaction, the 2D crystals will be integrated on a waveguide structure that strongly confines the light. We aspire to use these results to develop one or more proof-of-concept devices, e.g. optical modulators or optical parametric amplifiers/oscillators.
