MOODSTRATIFICATION: Immune Signatures for Therapy Stratification in Major Mood Disorders. KU Leuven
MOODSTRATIFICATION brings together 11 partners (psychiatrists, immunologists, epidemiologists, industry) from 7 countries stratifying patients with a major depressive episode on the basis of leukocyte immune profiles. The immune profiles were found in two previous EU projects, which also delivered the novel concept, that T cell defects with episodes of chronic mild inflammation are a causal factor for a large part of mood disorders. The ...
The role of neuro-cognitive research has related mood disorders Ghent University
Recent neuro-cognitive research has related mood disorders to a deficit within strategic attentional processes led by a frontocortical-subcortical network. The aim of this project is to explore these prefrontal attentional problems through rTMS and ERP brain researches while applying experimental attentional paradigms. These results prospect a functional relation between cognitive control and clinical indications.
When (not) eating causes distress: A multi-methodological examination of the development, maintenance and consequences of the Avoidance/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder in children and their parents Ghent University
Picky eating is common during childhood but when enduring it may burden the child's as well as his or her parents' physical and mental wellbeing. The present project aims to investigate the development, maintenance, and consequences of clinical picky eating behaviors (recently defined as Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder; ARFID) by studying bidirectional relations in emotional processing between children and parents. Three work ...
Transitional care for emerging adults with autism spectrum disorder. Translating “good practices” and experiences into a transitional care program KU Leuven
Emerging adulthood is a particularly vulnerable time for individuals with ASD, during which continued and even intensified care is essential to support them and preclude a negative prognosis. Unfortunately this age period (18-25y) coincides with the transition from child/adolescent care to adult care services. Because of the considerable differences between child/adolescent and adult services, and because of the specific needs of emerging ...
Where is the comfort in comfort foods: unraveling the neurophysiological underpinnings of human food reward in health and food intake disorders KU Leuven
Although of great public health interest, the neurophysiological underpinnings of reward-based eating and their interplay with homeostatic mechanisms implicated in energy balance regulation are poorly understood, particularly when it comes to the role of different neurotransmitters. Dopamine (DA) and the endocannabinoid system (ECS) are considered key mediators of reward system responses to palatable foods, but human evidence is limited. The ...
Using molecular signaling profile in white blood cells measured by highly-sensitive mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics in the differential diagnosis between major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder. University of Antwerp
Food for Thought: Quantifying Eating Disorders One (Mega)Byte at a Time with Data Driven Approaches KU Leuven
Eating disorders (ED) are mental health syndromes characterized by pathological behaviours with devastating impact on the physical health of patients. Therefore, both mental and physical care need to be combined during treatments for ED. Regarding physical health management, weight and cardiovascular risk factors are usually monitored. The psychopathology management follows similar heuristics as for other mental health disorders. Related to ...
