Versatile mass spectrometry platform for an in-depth molecular and pharmacokinetic characterization of small molecule, peptide and proteinogenic lead compounds (MS) Vrije Universiteit Brussel
200 kV Transmission Electron Microscope (200 kV TEM) Ghent University
It is a modern 200 kV electron microscope with high resolving power, to study the fine structure in 2D and 3D of biological samples. The new microscope will be fully equipped for both room temperature imaging of plastic-embedded samples, as well as imaging of frozen samples at cryogenic temperatures. This type of high-resolution information will be used to identify and answer questions about molecular contributions to medical-biological processes in cells and tissue in healthy or diseased states such as Alzheimer's disease. On the other hand, it can contribute to a better understanding of ...
A 200 kV transmission electron microscope for high-resolution determination of 3D-ultrastructure of native proteins, cells and tissue (TEM) KU Leuven
We request funding for acquisition of a modern high resolution 200 kV electron microscope, fully equipped for cryo- and room temperature imaging including tomography for determining the 3D-structure of biological samples. The new microscope will be used for imaging specimens embedded in plastic at room temperature, as well as for imaging frozen specimens at cryogenic temperature. This type of high-resolution information will be used to answer and identify molecular contributions to medico-biological processes in cells and tissues in health and diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. ...
SpatialConnect - het connecteren van weefselbiologie met de spatiale genexpressie per individuele cel (SpatialConnect) Ghent University
The SpatialConnect initiative aims to build an infrastructure consisting of 2 interdependent parts:
1) a Zeiss LSM900 confocal scanning microscope
2) a Resolve Biosciences Molecular Cartography platform.
We have the ambition to set up an efficient imaging workflow in which the LSM900 is first needed to perform whole tissue imaging to obtain an overview image and determine the Region of Interest (ROI). This ROI selection is essential prior to performing spatial transcriptomics using the Molecular Cartography technology. Indeed, the latter results in a 100-plex ...
Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorter (FACS) Ghent University
Robust, user-friendly and state-of-the-art fluorescence activated cell sorter (FACS) which allows isolation of individual cells and pathogens from complex cell mixtures derived e.g. from body fluids and tissues based on different cell characteristics (size, granularity and fluorescence). Isolated cells can be characterized in molecular detail, either directly or upon further cultivation. As such, FACS represents an essential tool in a plethora of life science research domains. Since FACS involves live cells and pathogens, it requires on-site access by users to avoid transport-associated ...
PACBIO; third -generation sequencing platform with Single Molecule Real Time technology (SMRT) (PACBIO) KU Leuven
The PacBio RS system fills an important gap in the instrumentation that is necessary to address major scientific questions in genomics. The PacBio RS is a third -generation sequencing platform with Single Molecule Real Time technology (SMRT). The sequencer introduces several new features to sequencing that are complementary with the current (second generation) sequencers that are available at the Genomics Core in Leuven and in other facilities in Flanders: It is the first instrument to detect DNA in real time. Moreover, no amplification step is required during sample preparation, ...
Distributed System of Scientific Collections (DiSSCo-Vlaanderen) Ghent University
DiSSCo is a new world-class research infrastructure for the physical and digital management of European natural science collections with an overarching management and access policy. To make collections more visible and usable, associated data and media must become more findable, accessible, exchangeable and reusable (FAIR). DiSSCo represents the largest formal agreement ever between natural history museums, botanical gardens, zoos, universities and other institutions with collections, and enables the transformation of a fragmented landscape into an integrated knowledge base. DiSSCo ...
Towards a collection management infrastructure for Flanders (DiSSCo) Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Flanders BioImaging: towards an integrated, translational and multimodal imaging platform from molecule to man (FBI) KU Leuven
Imaging has become a key technology in life sciences and clinical research. As an ESFRI project, Flanders BioImaging (FBI) historically consists of two main multisite nodes: FLAMINGO (Flanders Molecular Imaging Organisation) and LIMBO (Light Microscopy BioImaging Operations), that were both successfully evaluated in the EU EuroBioImaging (EuBI) project at its Interim operation (ERIC status now). The primary aim of this project is to anchor both consortia in order to provide international researchers access to an integrated high-capacity network of state-of-the-art imaging infrastructure ...
