The coverage of migration in the media is considered partly to blame for the Brexit vote. While all published studies focus on broadsheets and tabloids, our project will involve content and discourse analyses with a view to identifying the approach to migration by three major digital-only media, in
the Brexit context: Buzzfeed UK, The Huffington Post UK and Vice UK.
Dealing with nuisance: regulation, representation and legitmate penalisation. Ghent University
The project will examine the legitimacy of regulation in the case of nuisance/ incivilties. Drawing on criminalisation theory, comparative jurisprudence and contemporary criminological theories as well as on the basis of empirical research (analysis of media representations), the phenomenon will be analysed in the national and international of comparative perspective, and implications for future policy suggested.

Out of the past. A multi-methodological research project on the role and representation of the colonial past in contemporary news coverage: Africa on Belgium and vice versa. Ghent University
This project wants to critically investigate if and how colonial constructions and discourses are present in contemporary representations of former colonies (Congo, Rwanda and Burundi) in Belgian news reporting and vice versa. Drawing on a comparative design of a content analysis, a production analysis and an audience research, we examine the role of a shared colonial past.
