Sabbatical Dominique Schreurs: Deepening into emerging areas of research for nonlinear microwave/mmWave measurement techniques KU Leuven
The main aim of the sabbatical is to have the opportunity to focus myself on basic research as opposed to being able only to supervise the research by my post‐docs, PhD and MSc students, as it has been the case since more than a decade. The intended research will be centered around nonlinear microwave/mmWave measurements, which is my core expertise. The research stay will be conducted at National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) ...
Optoelectronic measurement techniques for biomedical research: Endoscopic Moiré Interferometry & High-Resolution Orthogonal-Plane Fluorescence Optical Sectioning Tomography. University of Antwerp
OPTIMESS: Optical Measurements Techniques for Structures & Systems Vrije Universiteit Brussel
During the last decades, the design of structures and systems has undergone an evolution to miniaturization and usage of lightweight materials. This is the case for mechanical structures (e.g. aircraft components), civil structures (e.g. composite and textile constructions), biomedical ...
Coupling of a new in-situ measurement technique with a new modeling approach for the determination of the effective settling velocity of flocculating sediments in estuaries. University of Antwerp
Coupling of a New In-Situ Measurement Technique with a New Modelling Approach for the Determination of the Effective Settling Velocity of Flocculating Sediments in Estuaries Ghent University
The project entails a cooperation between the VUB, KULeuven, Flanders Hydraulics Research, UA and UGent. The goal of the project is the design, development and testing of a new device capable of monitoring the in situ settling behaviour of flocculated material. In this framework, laboratory and field measurements will be executed and modelling of this behaviour will be attempted.
Design of self-learning control and measurement circuitry for adaptive bio-electrochemical arrays KU Leuven
Bioelectrochemical systems (BESs) are a novel type of bioreactors where electroactive biofilms (EABs) drive electrochemical reactions as an environmental friendly alternative to many classical chemical pathways. The research community originally focused on microbial fuel cells which directly produce electrical energy. More recently, the focus has shifted towards microbial electrolysis cells, which produce valuable chemicals from organic waste ...
Sabbatical Jan Diels: Innovative techniques for measuring soil evaporation, plant transpiration and soil water content in the field KU Leuven
I will focus on two innovative techniques with great potential to advance soil hydrology at the field scale. The first technique is the use of the cosmic ray neutron sensing (CRNS). The technique is based on the fact that incoming cosmic rays interact with the earth’s atmosphere and in this way create fast neutrons that reach and penetrate the soil surface, and are scattered back, attenuated by hydrogen in the soil water. By measuring that ...
