Design of energy harvesting and energy-aware systems for low power wireless sensors. University of Antwerp
Design of low frequency metamaterial technology for the electrical power transfer to forces and torques Ghent University
The energy efficiency of current electromechanical devices depends on their topology and the magnetic materials it contains. This project studies the incorporation of inductor-capacitor resonators as low frequency metamaterial technology for the remote electrical power transfer to forces and torques. The design will be carried out in terms of energy conversion and its efficiency both numerically and experimentally.
Photonic interconnect layer on silicon / Ultra low power Photonic Ics for optical interconnects sand communication networks Ghent University
Future high performance microprocessors will be confronted with a bottleneck on the datacommunication level: classical electrical interconnects will no longer suffice. To overcome this, this project will investigate an optical interconnect layer for on-chip communication. The most important component in the source, a nanolaser with minimal power consumption.

Taming ecosystem power of platforms through contract and competition law. University of Antwerp
Understanding and addressing economic power in EU competition law KU Leuven
Powerful firms impact evermore parts of our society. Traditionally, competition law aims to maintain the balance on the market. However, certain traditional notions may have reached their limits. Crucial for competition law are the evolving and diverse ways in which an undertaking can accumulate power. The proposed project will apply a fundamental perspective to the notion and treatment of economic power.
The first part focuses on the ...
Sacred Power and Sacrificial Punishment. On Sacrifice as a Politico-Theological Paradigm for the History of Criminal Law KU Leuven
Sacrifice, this interdisciplinary investigation asserts, offers a fascinating hermeneutical paradigm to shed new light on the history of criminal law and political power from about the later Middle Ages until the fall of the ancien régime. By teasing out sacrificial tenets of Western political theology, the sacrificial interpretation of penal history which I propose can be contextually embedded. René Girard, above all others, ...
Computational-experimental study of advanced hybrid modelling and control techniques for the evaluation of the power flow in vehicle electrification Ghent University
The power electronic inverter is a key interface that is connected between the batteries and the electrical machine. Assessing the energy efficiency of the inverter and performing energy efficient control of the interconnected batteries-inverter-machine subsystem in vehicle electrification requires swift evaluation of the power flow. Hybrid modelling techniques will be proposed and verified by measurements on a validation test setup.
An empirical investigation of how corporate financialization, wealth inequality and the distribution of stakeholder power shape aggregate demand, interact with ECB policies and influence the climate transition. Ghent University
We will
1. document corporate financialization in the Euro Area, test its impact on investments, inequality and demand.
2. investigate how QE contributed to these trends and how the unequal distribution of stakeholder power hampers the ECB in reaching its target.
3. analyze the risks and opportunities of corporate financialization, wealth inequalities and current monetary policies for the climate transition.
Balance of power and international law. European diplomacy and the elaboration of the international order, 18th century and post-1945. Ghent University
Our research treats the balance of power-system of the early 18th century (1713-1740) and its return in the European contestation of the bipolar world order after 1945. The legal translation of aspirations to a multipolar order constitutes our analytical framework, while the diplomatic correspondence is our main source (sparsely treated by legal scholars, who primary study treaties and theory).
