Cyclin E1 plays a key role in balancing between totipotency and differentiation in human embryonic cells Vrije Universiteit Brussel Ghent University
We aimed to investigate if Cyclin E1 (CCNE1) plays a role in human embryogenesis, in particular during the early developmental stages characterized by a short cell cycle.
STUDY FINDING:
CCNE1 is expressed in plenipotent human embryonic cells and plays a critical role during hESC derivation via the naïve state and, potentially, normal embryo development.

Cervical lymph nodes, thyroiditis and ophthalmopathy Vrije Universiteit Brussel
We report a case of immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) presenting with a clinical course suggestive of fibrosing thyroiditis and endocrine ophthalmopathy associated with enlarged cervical lymph nodes. This clinical presentation should prompt a search for associated systemic disorders, including an IgG4-RD. The clue to the exact diagnosis of the underlying disease is histological examination showing an IgG4 plasmatocytic infiltrate in ...

Seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in domestic sheep in Belgium Institute of Tropical Medicine Ghent University
Even though infected sheep are a potential source of Toxoplasma gondii infection in humans, information is lacking concerning the seroprevalence of T. gondii infection in sheep in Belgium. We examined 3170 serum samples for anti-Toxoplasma IgG in sheep by total lysate antigen (TLA) enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). IgG to T. gondii was demonstrated in 87.4% of the tested sheep and in 96.2% of the 209 tested flocks. The ...
