Henipaviruses are negative-strand RNA viruses in the Paramyxoviridae family with currently five species: Cedar, Ghanaian bat, Hendra, Mojang and Nipah henipaviruses. They are naturally harbored by pteropid fruit bats (flying foxes) and microbats of several species found throughout the tropics and subtropics.
