BUILDING EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH OF HUMAN-ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS WITH GEOSPATIAL AND EARTH OBSERVATION TECHNOLOGIES KU Leuven
HES-GEO project aims to enhance existing research capacity and stimulate scientific excellence in the Institute of Geography and Spatial Management (IGSM), Jagiellonian University, in studying human-environmental systems (HES) of the Anthropocene, along variety of urban-rural-marginal gradients, at various spatial and temporal scales and using tools and data available through Earth observation (EO) and geospatial technologies. HES-GEO will ...
Heat Indicators for Global Health (HIGH Horizons): monitoring, Early Warning Systems and health facility interventions for pregnant and postpartum women, infants and young children and health workers Ghent University
Climate change has impacted people worldwide. In some places its impact can lead to natural disasters, while in others it leads to extremes of heat or cold. Particularly vulnerable groups like pregnant women, infants, frontline health workers and older citizens can be significantly affected by these changes. The EU-funded HIGH Horizons project aims to better prepare us for these eventualities by developing personalised early warning systems, ...

Effects of antiretrovirals for HIV on African health systems, maternal and child health Institute of Tropical Medicine
To explore health system consequences of the rapid scale-up of HIV treatment programs, focusing on maternal and child health outcomes (related to MDGs 4 and 5). The research attempts to link micro-level data (demographic impact), meso-level data (health facilities) and macro-level data (national policy) in Uganda, Tanzania and Burkina Faso The Health Policy & Financing Unit of ITM is leading the work on Human Resources for Health for the ...

European network staff eXchange for integrAting precision health in the health Care sysTems KU Leuven
The aim of the “European network staff eXchange for integrAting precision health in the health Care sysTems (ExACT)” is to train a new generation of professionals that can contribute to the future of health and healthcare (HC), by providing high-quality, multidisciplinary knowledge in precision health. The greater personalisation of HC is a driver of innovation for research, and for the healthcare system and industry. Still policy makers, HC ...
Artificial intelligence as a basis for human health engineering: from cell manufacturing processes to real-time health monitoring systems KU Leuven
In this research we aim at developing and applying artificial intelligence or machine learning based methods to facilitate medical/health data analysis and development of medical/health monitoring systems. Firstly, an algorithm for cell mitosis event detection is developed for tissue engineering applications. Then, the machine learning based method will be extended and applied to various wearable medical/health monitoring systems.
