Prevention of intrauterine growth retardation by adapted food supplementation in undernourished mothers in developing countries Ghent University
Foetal growth retardation results in low birth weight (LBW) babies with a higher mortality and morbidity risk during the neonatal period and beyond. Women that initiate pregnancy undernourished are particularly at risk of poor birth outcome. This project proposes to study the mechanism on how prenatal nutritional supplementation effects foetal and postnatal child growth. A first study evaluates the effect of prenatal supplementation on child ...

Growth Factors and Their Action through the Phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase Pathway in the Bovine Preimplantation Embryo. Ghent University
Pregnancy rates, after transfer of in vitro produced cattle embryos, remain quite low. In several biological systems, growth factors play a crucial role in the activation of a universal survival pathway.
Growth factors are not routinely added to the medium used for embryo culture. In this project, we investigate the importance of growth factors and their pathway in the preimplantation embryo.
