Gene polymorphisms and gene products as biological markers of aging and correlation with clinical geriatric assessment, disease charactéristics and outcome in elderly breast cancer patients. KU Leuven
Systemic sclerosis and occupational silica or solvent exposure: investigating epidemiology, gene-environment interactions and objective markers of exposure to improve occupational epidemiology, risk assessment and prevention KU Leuven
ystemic sclerosis can develop in genetically predisposed individuals upon exposure to environmental triggers. We will investigate the association between occupational exposure to silica or solvents and systemic sclerosis. We will determine genetic backgrounds to evaluate the relation between exposure, genetics and disease characteristics. We will evaluate objective markers of exposure. This would allow for true preventive strategies and lead ...
Towards a better selection of systemic treatment for patients with ER-positive HER2-negative breast cancer: the use of prognostic and predictive markers in early and metastatic setting KU Leuven
Worldwide, breast cancer represents about 25% of all cancers in women. There is extensive research effort into this highly complex and heterogeneous disease comprising many different histological and molecular subtypes with luminal, oestrogen receptor (ER)-positive human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative tumours being the most frequent subtype. Even within this subtype, there is a lot of heterogeneity, which complicates ...

Persister cells under the magnifying glass: drafting a persister model and development of persistence diagnostics markers KU Leuven
Persistence refers to a subpopulation of bacteria with the ability to survive antibiotic treatment for an extended period. Persistence is not restricted to laboratory strains but it is intrinsic to every bacterial population studied to date. Consequently, bacterial persistence is recognized as an important cause of antibiotic treatment failure and chronic infections. The conserved GTPase Obg is recognized as a central regulator of ...
Mobility, inbreeding and fitness in spatially-structured populaties of warblers: an integrated study with genotypic and phenotypic markers Ghent University
This project aims at providing insight into the complex relationships between mobility, genetic and demographic processes operating in spatially-structured populations of warblers. We therefore study behavioural, genotypic and phenotypic patterns and processes in rural and urban populations of Passer domesticus. Research methods comprise mark-recapture, telemetry and analysis of micro-satellite DNA, ptilochronology and bilateral asymmetry.
Novel macrophage and myeloid dendritic cell markers for in vivo imaging and therapy of inflammatory diseases; inflammation trackin "inflammatrack". Vrije Universiteit Brussel
B-specific: B-cell related gene and protein markers with prognostic and therapeutic value for CVD KU Leuven
Atherosclerosis is the major underlying condition of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and one the leading causes of mortality. Rupture or erosion of atherosclerotic lesions can lead to acute cardiovascular events, such as myocardial infarction and stroke, making biomarkers to diagnose patients at risk for these events and develop tailored preventive interventions, an urgent need. Although atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease, ...
