Conceptualization and geometric modelling of spatial data for a 3D archaeological GIS Ghent University
Archaeologists would greatly benefit from the development of an archaeological 3D geographical information system (GIS). The objective of the proposed research is to create a decision scheme through which a suitable 3D geometric modelling technique for such a system can be determined, taking into account the needs of archaeological research and based on a user-centered, theoretical and empirical pillar.

The application of remote sensing technique and GIS for water environmental applications in northwestern China Ghent University
Remote sensing provide important alternative resources for water management and hazards detection. The project plans to study the ability for the application of remote sensing products such as satellite precipitation
products and refine water management and hazards detection over northwestern China by using the best available remote sensing products.
Towards the development of ArcheoGML: a conceptual data model for a 4D archaeological GIS Ghent University
The proposed project consists of a first step towards a formal definition of a conceptual data model specifically designed for 4D archaeological data and analysis. The requirements of the archaeologists will take a central position in this development. The model will be gradually created using test cases on archaeological sites and continous feedback with the detected user requirements.
A clear modelling of the fuzzy geometric and semantic data of the Ferraris map in a historical GIS Ghent University
The Carte de Cabinet of count Joseph de Ferraris (1770-1780) is the oldest, large-scale topographical map of our regions. To allow the map to realize its full potential in different research disciplines a GIS-model will be developed to deal with the map's vague geometry and semantics (the occurrence of globel and local geometric deformations and the absence of parish bouncaries respectively).
Development of a GIS based management model for crop protection means in river basins Ghent University
The research aims to develop a practical tool to evaluate the risk of the application of pesticides on river basin scale. Current knowledge about the application on the subject will be coupled geographically with environmental conditions (climatology, slope, U+2026) to create a practical management tool. Starting from (complex) existing process descriptions, possible simplifications will be investigated and a general methodology for model ...
Use of a GIS to analyse a two-dimensional conceptual temporal space Ghent University
The triangular temporal concept uses a 2D-space, giving opportunities with respect to the visualisation and analysis by use of GISystems. In this project, we aim at representing this 2D cocneptual space in such a way that current sophisticated techniques can be used to analyse two-dimensional non-spatial data.
Education in remote sensing and GIS at the university of Kisangani (UNIKIS) with applications Ghent University
The aim of the project to establish a small remote sensing laboratory at the University of Kinsangani. A room will be adapted to installa a number of PC's with will be equipped with image processing software. Also a number of lectures to train staff members in remote sensing and GIS will be given, including exercises.
Detection and spatial analysis of urbanization and land use change in small island states, by means of GIS and remote sensing techniques KU Leuven
This study will collect reliable longitudinal data on urbanization and land use change on Caribbean SIDS. Remote sensing procedures will be developed to detect urban growth patterns from 1980-present. Comparative research will explore the drivers and controlling factors of urban growth. Based on this, a land use change simulation model allows to develop future land use change scenario's that can be used in spatial and economic planning ...
