Transition Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food
In the research domain Transition, transition processes and the management of these processes in the Flemish agriculture and horticulture are studied. A transition is a structural change of a complex system to a new system over a long period of time. The understanding of these processes helps to support Ôchange processesÕ by the evolution to more sustainable systems.
Geology Vrije Universiteit Brussel
DGLG focuses its activities on Earth and environmental sciences, which means a broad scope of interests. The experimental approach using 'isotope geology' is original and unique in Flanders. The department' labs host several mass spectrometers for the precise determination of several key isotopic systems. The isotopes are powerful geological tools, with a broad range of application, often resulting in stimulating inter-university projects and ...

Division of Bioeconomics KU Leuven
The Division of Bioeconomics has three main research lines:
- poverty reduction and economic growth in poor countries and the sustainable and efficient use of natural resource to realize pro-poor growth;
- the transition towards a sustainable bio-based economy;
- the link between economic and ecological models by refining functions of socio-economic drivers that are used to model resource use change and changes in ...
Agricultural and Farm Development Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food
We study the complexity of choices made to increase sustainability. How does a competitive and sustainable production system function within an environmental, market and policy context? What makes it shock-resistant? We study the resilience of agricultural systems, develop decision support tools and models, study collaboration in the agro-food chain, create sustainability assessment tools and study learning processes in farmer groups.

Pig Husbandry Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food
Economically, ecologically and socially sustainable pork production is our focus. We evaluate feed and additives during production, digestibility and balance trials and physiological research. We strive to reduce emissions (ammoniac) and excretions (N, P). We work on animal welfare and health and develop innovative housing systems. We have 140 experimental sows and 900 hybrid pigs; we also do on-farm research.
Applied Mechanics and Energy Conversion Section KU Leuven
The Applied Mechanics and Energy Conversion Section also contains the Centre for Nuclear Engineering.
The research activities of the group are situated in the following areas : - Simulation of thermal industrial processes and systems - Heat pumps : design and applications. - Heat transfer : boiling and condensation, augmentation techniques, measurement techniques. - Heat exchangers optimization : compact gas-gas heat exchangers, air ...
