The Scientific Research Community (WOG) "Spectacle culture" wants to bring a trend break in this area. Apart from institutions and disciplines, scientists come together to compare their current research on cultural culture in terms of content and methodology, to sketch a state of affairs, but also to develop new research hypotheses or questions.

Cinema and diaspora. A comparative study of diaspora film cultures in Antwerp: Indian, North African, Turkish and Jewish cinema. Ghent University
This projects aims at researching diaspora film cultures of etnic minorities in Belgium. Using a case study (Antwerp) Indian, North African, Turkish and Jewish film cultures are analysed and compared. A structural analysis (distribution and exploitation) are combined with audience studies. Especially the way these film cultures are part of the construction of a cultural identity are stressed in this research.

In recent years, a remarkable Flemish-Dutch remake phenomenon has evolved into a structural characteristic of contemporary film production dynamics in the Low Countries. This project investigates the complex dynamics and dimensions involved in the emerging phenomenon by paying attention to how this process intersects with issues of cultural identity and cultural proximity, in terms of text, production, distribution and reception.
