Evaluation of the potentional of native microbial inoculants (Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi and Trichoderma spp.) for control of the yam nemathodes and an omproved soil fertility, yam pruductivity and strobility. Ghent University
This study investigates the diversity of yam nemathodes and their interaction with yam an important staple food in West-Africa. Yam cultivars will be screened for resistance to nematodes. An in virto an in situ approach will reveal the potentails of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi and trichoderma spp. to control nemathodes, promote yam growth, and improve yam storability.
Stress and bovine sperm in relation to in vitro fertility Ghent University
"If it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger". Sublethal stress can improve gamete quality. In this research we will investigate the peroxiredoxins (PRDXs) expression in bull spermatozoa after H2O2 exposure and their role in sperm-oocytes interaction. Moreover, we will evaluate the expression pattern of PRDX6 in oocytes of different quality (small, medium and large oocytes, based on oocyte diameter) and its role in repairing oxidative sperm ...
Improvement of Cattle Fertility and Fetal Programming guided by Ultrasonography, Hormonal Assay and Metabolic Profiling. Ghent University
In the present study we will examine the prevalence of ovarian disturbances among dairy cows in Bangladesh. Based on a field study, the association with the metabolic load the cows experience and the effect of the nutritional level will be examined. In Ghent, aspects about metabolic programming in fairy cows will be studied. The latter will be done based on the close follow up of embryonic growth in pregnant lactating dairy cows.
Ethical implications of new techniques for fertility preservation Ghent University
A recent branch within reproductive medicine aims to preserve the fertility of people whose reproductive potential is threatened by disease, medical treatments or other factors. This can be done by removing, storing and/or transplanting gametes, embryos and reproductive tissue. We aim to grasp the ethical issues that arise with each of these interventions.

Seed production in Rosa x hybrida L.: development of fertility and dormancy markers Ghent University
The yield of vital seeds in rose breeding programmes is usually low. In order to optimize breeding efficiency morphological markers to identify suitable pollen parents for high seed production are developed. The role of pollen fertility in relation to embryo development will be studied. Genetical markers, indicative for dormancy release, will also be developed.
