Measurements, Effect Assessment and Mitigation of Pollutant Impact on Movable Cultural Assets - Innovative research for market Transfer Ghent University
The MEMORI-project aims to develop a dosimeter to monitor the exposure of museum objects to organic vapours in museum enclosures. These vapours (acetic acid, formic acid) are produced by wooden frames. The European partners develop the dosimeter, whereas we specifically examine the degradation of pigments under the influence of organic vapours, by using Raman spectrsocopy.
Sabbatical Silvana Mandolessi: Affect, Trauma and Activism: the Ayotzinapa case KU Leuven
The objective of this sabbatical is to write the book based on the research carried out within the framework of the ERC Starting Grant project ‘We are all Ayotzinapa: the role of digital media in the shaping of transnational memories on disappearance’ (“Digital Memories” / 2016- 2021), which I lead. During the ERC project I focused on writing articles and editing three volumes that have been published (or will appear in the course of next ...
Application of novel 3D polymer scaffolds for skeletal muscle tissue engineering KU Leuven
About 40% of the human body mass consists of skeletal muscle (Liu et al. 2018). Upon injury, the skeletal muscle tissue can regenerate physiologically till some extend. However, when there is a volumetric muscle loss (VML), the remaining muscle tissue is unable to fully regenerate itself. This VML causes scar tissue and substantial negative impact on patients’ morbidity and life quality (Liu et al. 2018, Grasman et al. 2015). The current ...

MEMEX WWI - Recognition and resentment: experiences and memories of the Great War in Belgium
The first World War, with its unprecedented violence and unexpected duration, generated many complex and tragic experiences, which, over time have been interpreted and reinterpreted. The aims of this project are to bridge these two themes- experiences and memories of the war ~ in honor the Belgium's WWI heritage. This heritage ...
Green Agile Semiconductor Production KU Leuven
Flexible Electronics has been one of the fastest developing technologies in recent decades. The traditional path is electronic components such as silicon chips (e.g. microcontrollers) integrated onto flexible substrates called “hybrid integration” or “flexible hybrid electronics” in integrated smart systems. We believe that this approach is not a viable long-term solution for future high-volume, low-cost and conformable integrated smart ...

Memories KU Leuven
For less than 5% of patients with AD, a diagnosis can be made using specific gene tests. People with mutations in one or more well-characterized genes very likely develop the disease at a young age (> 30 years). However, there are young AD patients without these genetic risk factors, which suggest that unprecedented genes and / or external factors play a role. The majority of AD patients (> 95%) develop symptoms at a higher age (> 60 ...
