Knowledge-based solutions for a reliable control of Little cherry pcfruit npo
The presence of Little Cherry disease is currently limiting the investments in and expansion of the Flemish cherry sector. In this project we intend to get more insights in the virus complex (epidemiology, survival, starting material, effect of rootstock and/or cultivar). Moreover the potential role of insect vectors in the dispersal of LChV1 and LChV2 will be elucidated in transmission trials.

Model-based prediction of outbreak dynamics of nephropathia epidemica using climate and vegetation data KU Leuven
Wildlife-originated zoonotic diseases in general are a major contributor to emerging infectious diseases. Fifteen emerging zoonotic or vector-borne infections with increasing impact on humans in Europe were identified during the period 2000-2006. Global climate change may be a major contributor to the spread of these zoonotic diseases. Rodent borne hantavirus infections are part of this list. Puumala virus (PUUV), hosted by the bank vole ...
Therapeutic potential of high-density lipoproteins in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction KU Leuven
Plasma high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels and plasma levels of its major apolipoprotein (apo), apo A-I, are inversely correlated with the incidence of coronary heart disease. The potential protection conferred by HDL against ischemic cardiovascular diseases has been most often attributed to its role in reverse cholesterol transport. However, HDLs exert divergent functions that include actions mediated by signalling via ...

Advances in the management of Obstetric Fistulae KU Leuven
In this thesis research on obstetric fistula is being presented. Obstetric fistula are complications of obstructive labour, where the foetal head compresses tissues against the bony pelvis. This induces ischaemia and necrosis of these tissues and subsequent fistulisation. The high prevalence of obstetric fistula in certain regions of developing countries is a hallmark of poor perinatal care
