HavePhAIth: Human Phage therapy using AI to design phage cocktails against ESKAPE pathogens KU Leuven
HavePhAIth: Human phage therapy against the ESKAPE pathogens using AI KU Leuven
Human Phage Therapy (PT) is a promising route for the treatment of drug-resistant bacterial infections. Belgium is currently leading the implementation of PT in Europe, and the technique is currently in operations at the Queen Astrid Military Hospital (QAMH) and at UZ Leuven. A Multidisciplinary Phage Task Force (MPTF) has been set up within UZ Leuven to provide a PT framework for patients with difficult-to-treat infections. However, the ...
Study of determinants in the immune escape of melanoma and identification of possible strategies to reverse this escape. Ghent University
Melanoma is a very immunogenic tumor. Clinical responses are despite immunotherapeutic interventions limited and currently responders can't be identified in advance.
This project will focus on the detection of myeloid suppressor cells (MSC) and regulatory T-cells (Tregs) in melanoma patients. Likewise the tumoral expression of immunomodulating proteins will be determined.
ILS 2022: Crypto escape room Vrije Universiteit Brussel
can be solved using classical cryptosystems (Caesar cipher, scytale,
cryptex, simple watermarking system,…). A brief description of this crypto
systems will be made available so that participants can (largely)
be able to perform independently. After finding the ultimate code, the safe can be opened
from which one 3D-printed bitcoin can then be ...
Would mayors rule a better world? An analysis of how city networks can escape gridlock in the climate mitigation field KU Leuven
The Paris Climate Agreement formally recognizes the role of local governments/cities in combating global warming. Cities have in fact been collaborating on climate change in international city networks for a long time, with these networks often being hailed as a promising alternative or addition to gridlocked interstate cooperation. However, it remains insufficiently clear how local governments succeed in avoiding or escaping the structural ...
Evaluating the Role of Autophagy in the Tumor Vasculature and as Anti-angiogenic Escape Mechanism KU Leuven
Escape the past: A cue to forget emotional memories KU Leuven
Emotional memories are at the root of anxiety-related disorders, yet current interventions aimed at modifying such memories suffer from a lack of long-lasting, persistent effects, allowing for the gradual return of anxiety complaints. This highlights the need for novel methods to manipulate emotional memories, to help people forget burdensome events. Directed forgetting manipulations have been repeatedly applied in declarative memory research ...

A new mechanism of tumor escape from innate-like T lymphocytes Ghent University
Professor Leclercq and his team studied certain mechanisms at the basis of the multiplication of cancer cells and metastasis (or metastases). They study, in particular, a protein that is produced by tumors (neoplasms) and which can interfere with the proper functioning of the natural defense mechanism of the body. Tumor cells have developed several mechanisms that promote cell proliferation and metastases to other organs or to avoid being ...
