ERC connect funding: CLIP-EX: Countering chronic Low-grade Inflammation by Physical Exercise: unraveling muscle–to-immune-cell communication Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Chronic inflammation is present in the elderly population, and is involved in many tissue and cellular dysfunctions with ageing, including the immune system, the skeletal muscle (sarcopenia) or more generally tissue-repair.
Counteracting this chronic inflammation will be beneficial for those age-related dysfunctions, and thus for the general well-being of the aged population.

Transport infrastructure and regional development in China during the Maoist era KU Leuven
1. Introduction
This project aims to investigate the link between transport infrastructure and regional economic development in China during the Mao era. Economists argue that public investments have a positive impact on economic growth for a number of reasons. As we will elaborate in what follows, the Chinese story contains many unique and intriguing elements which complicate this statement. A thorough investigation of the topic will ...
The Creation of Yang Zhu as A Philisopher in The Republican Era KU Leuven
The fame of Yangism was, in ancient times, as great as Confucianism and Mohism. As a matter of fact, Mohism and Confucianism were considered as equals during the Warring States period and the Han Dynasty, while Yangism being the third greatest school among the Hundred Schools of Thought. It is not until later times that Yangism and Mohism were deemed less than Confucianism. And after the Book Burning and Burial of the Scholars in the Qin ...

Development of an extended animal model for perinatal drug testing for Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia KU Leuven
Premature birth affects 11% of all pregnancies and is the leading cause of death in neonates worldwide. Advances in perinatal medicine have resulted in the more accurate prediction of preterm birth and more timely interventions leading to increased neonatal survival rates also for extreme preterm babies (≤28 weeks). However, the associated morbidity in survivors remains significant, especially in the pulmonary and central nervous system. At ...
Discovery of Antiseizure Compounds in Zebrafish Models for the Treatment of Drug-Resistant Epilepsy KU Leuven
With 70 million people affected worldwide is epilepsy one of the most common neurological diseases characterized by unpredictable, unprovoked, recurrent seizures. Moreover, the disease is often accompanied by psychiatric and cognitive comorbidities, affecting dramatically the quality of life of patients. So far, pharmacological intervention is the first-line treatment for epilepsy. Unfortunately, about 30% of patients experience seizures that ...
Co-design of Mm-wave Interfaces, Duplexers and CMOS Transmitters KU Leuven
The vision for both the 5th generation mobile communication systems (5G) and the internet of things (IoT) keeps moving towards the final deployment. These new emerging applications require enormous data transmission with low latency among user devices and different networks. Spectral resources at low-GHz range are running low and could hardly meet the requirement either in a wireless or wire-line fashion. Millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) technology ...
