Higher order informational interactions for psychometrics: new tools and perspectives Ghent University
I propose a framework in which psychometrics items such as response to questionnaries or clinical symptoms are grouped together in terms of their informational content, which can be classified as synergistic or redundant.
This approach will extend and complement the emerging field of network psychometrics, providing advances and solutions that are both statistical and conceptual. The implemented tools will allow researchers in ...
Multimodal and computational framework of cerebral network organization to test different hypotheses for the emergence of consciousness Ghent University
The majority of studies considering patients with disorders of consciousness (DOC) are observational. The present project aims to test the hypotheses for the emergence of consciousness by studying cerebral dysfunction in pathological states of consciousness on a mechanistic level. This will be achieved through multimodal neuroimaging/ neurophysiology and a biophysical modelling framework. The studies will comprise behavioral, electrical (EEG) ...
Evolution of flavour-, structure- and colour-related aspects in Brussels sprouts and leek: an integrated food chain approach KU Leuven
The overall research objective of current PhD project is to gain insight in a nd to quantify the evolution of flavour-related quality characteristics of selected vegetables (i.e. Brussèls sprouts and leek) as determined by food (micro)structure throughout the different steps of the process chain in an integrated way: from raw material, over pretreatment, processing and storage to food product regeneration. To be able to achieve this general ...
Investigating collective brain dynamics underlying stimulus processing in migraine. Ghent University
With electroencephalography (EEG), it has been shown that migraine is linked to altered processing of stimuli. Crucially, stimulus processing involves and modifies the dynamics of several brain regions. A framework of analyses which complements local power and activation studies with connectivity and dynamical models will be developed to gain insight in the information flow of different brain regions.
Dealing with multiple mediators in causal mediation analysis Ghent University
Limitations of methods for causal mediation analysis are so severe that they prohibit realistic applications with multiple mediators. To overcome this, we will propose new conceptual definitions of interventional direct and indirect effects, along with estimation procedures. These effects are informative about interventions, require fewer assumptions than current notions of causal effects and can be identified in multiple mediator ...
Identification of single subject cognitive networks: from morphology to dynamical computations Ghent University
Taking individual morphological cortical features into account improves the local precision of functional organization of the brain. By using recently developed dynamical network approaches, we'll show that functional networks of these morphological features at an individual level can be mapped at a very fine grained scale, which will greatly improve the resolution of functional descriptions for normal and pathological brains.
New statistical tools for analysing complex survey data in the social sciences Ghent University
Social research increasingly requires investigators to gather large and complex data that are frequently cross-national in nature. Using large questionnaires, skills, attitudes, and traits are measured and saved in huge datasets. A typical example of a complex dataset is the PISA study (Programme for International Student Assessment), a triennial international survey that aims to evaluate education systems worldwide by testing 15-year-old ...
Neural information flows during motivation and cognition. Ghent University
The research project involves applying highly advanced analyses
techniques on a variety of functional magnetic resonance imaging and electroencephalography data sets. Effective connectivity between brain areas will be investigated. These data sets stem from studies within the field of cognitive neuroscience (motivation and cognition). The results will provide insights into human behavior and the underlying neural mechanisms. ...
