Facilius sit Nili Caput Invenire: Towards an Attribution and Reconstruction of the Aristotelian Treatise De inundatione Nili KU Leuven
This article presents a study of the Aristotelian treatise "De Nilo" or "De inundatione Nili", which is only extant in a medieval Latin translation. Although there are several editions available, this article presents numerous improvements to their text based on the study of supplementary manuscript material. The translator of the treatise is identified as William of Moerbeke. The author also argues that the original Greek text might have been a ...
Quantitative exposure model for the transmission of norovirus in deli sandwich bars Ghent University
The adsorption of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteriophage KMV is dependent on expression regulation of type IV pili genes Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteriophage phi KMV requires type IV pili for infection, as observed from the phenotypic characterization and phage adsorption assays on a phage infection-resistant host strain mutant. A cosmid clone library of the host (P. aeruginosa PAO1) genomic DNA was generated and used to select for a clone that was able to restore phi KMV infection in the resistant mutant. This complementing cosmid also re-established type IV ...
Perceptions of ready-to-eat deli foods in Northwest Arkansas Ghent University
Ready-to-eat (RTE) foods are convenient and have increased in popularity over the past 20 years. Questions about the safety of RTE foods arose after numerous outbreaks of Listeria mono-cytogenes were linked to the consumption of RTE foods, mostly deli meats. To assess current consumers’ food safety perceptions as well as shopping preferences in Northwest Arkansas, 213 consumers were surveyed. Consumers responded that the primary reasons for ...
A quantitative exposure model simulating human norovirus transmission during preparation of deli sandwiches Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Ghent University
Human noroviruses (HuNoVs) are a major cause of food borne gastroenteritis worldwide. They are often transmitted via infected and shedding food handlers manipulating foods such as deli sandwiches. The presented study aimed to simulate HuNoV transmission during the preparation of deli sandwiches in a sandwich bar. A quantitative exposure model was developed by combining the GoldSim® and @Risk® software packages. Input data were collected from ...
Is DISI Deformity Related to Presence of a Medial Lunate Facet in Patients with Scapholunate Dissociation? KU Leuven
Background Lunate morphology has been suggested to influence carpal kinematics. Purpose We investigate a possible relation between presence of a medial lunate facet and dorsal intercalated segment instability (DISI) of the wrist in patients with a scapholunate (SL) dissociation. Methods We retrospectively reviewed patients diagnosed with SL dissociation between 2000 and 2017. Lunate morphology was categorized based on radiographs and magnetic ...
