iPSC-based parenchymal and sinusoidal liver cell mimics for DILI and NAFLD studies (iPSC-LiMic) KU Leuven
iPSC-LiMic will establish a unique platform in Flanders, and one of the few in Europe, wherein iPSC- derived parenchymal hepatocytes as well as sinusoidal cells (hepatic stellate cells, HSCs; liver sinusoidal endothelial cells, LSECs; and Kupffer cells, KCs) are created from human iPSC and assembled in 3D cocultures (termed 3D iPS-liver mimics), which can be maintained for >20 days in culture. Culture of 3D iPS-Liver mimics will be ...

Digi (language) in the workplace: KU Leuven
With this project proposal we want to contribute to the creation of sustainable employment opportunities
for the group of foreign-speaking newcomers in Flanders, where we want this target group
in the field of 21st century skills, in particular in the field of language and
digital skills. What is innovative about this project is that we have a more learner-oriented approach
want to work out, where from the start of the ...
The role of pili on Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG in the interaction with macrophages and other immune cells KU Leuven
The human gastrointestinal tract is colonized by large numbers of microbes, referred to as the gut microbiota. This microbiota establishes a complex and bilateral interplay with local host cells such as epithelial and immune cells. Functions including contribution to digestion, pathogen exclusion, enhancement of the epithelial barrier functioning and immune system modulation have been attributed to these gut microorganisms. Their described ...

Morpho-syntactic variation in the Greek documentary papyri (III BC – VI AD). A socio-historical investigation Ghent University
This investigation studies the relationship that exists between certain linguistic (morpho-syntactic) and social characteristics, and how this relationship evolves through time. The corpus consists of Greek ‘documentary’ papyri, with an emphasis on three general text types, that is, ‘letters’, ‘contracts’ and ‘petitions’. Theoretically, the investigation is embedded in the ‘Systemic Functional’ framework.
