The Novels of Michael Chabon and the Politics and Poetics of Postmodernism KU Leuven
Even though the heyday of postmodernism is behind us, its legacy still persists in contemporary American fiction. This dissertation discusses the complex relationship between the politics and poetics of postmodernism and Michael Chabon's novels. Every chapter consists of a theoretical framework on an aspect of postmodern literature and a reading of one of Chabon's novels in the light of that theoretical framework.

IMAGica: an Integrative personalised Medical Approach for Genetic diseases, Inherited Cardiac Arrhythmias as a model Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Development of Artificial Genetic Systems for Therapeutic Applications KU Leuven
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA) are among the most remarkable biomolecules occurring in nature, since they store and transfer all genetic information using only four letters (G, C, A & T or U). In the last 60 years, since the discovery of the structure of nucleic acids, numerous chemically modified nucleosides and nucleotides have been produced and incorporated into oligomeric sequences either by chemical or ...
Model Platinum Catalysts KU Leuven
Platinum is used by many industries because of its exceptional catalytic activity, electrochemical properties and corrosion resistance. It is widely used as a catalyst in the chemical production, in fuel cell and electrolyser electrodes and in sensors for analytical and medical applications. Catalysts are key to face grand technological challenges in the fields of energy and environmental protection and to ensure a sustainable supply of ...
Inter-relations of protein Tau, GSK3 and Nectin-3 in synaptic structure and plasticity in the hippocampus of mouse models for Alzheimer's disease KU Leuven
Discovery of Antiseizure Compounds in Zebrafish Models for the Treatment of Drug-Resistant Epilepsy KU Leuven
With 70 million people affected worldwide is epilepsy one of the most common neurological diseases characterized by unpredictable, unprovoked, recurrent seizures. Moreover, the disease is often accompanied by psychiatric and cognitive comorbidities, affecting dramatically the quality of life of patients. So far, pharmacological intervention is the first-line treatment for epilepsy. Unfortunately, about 30% of patients experience seizures that ...
Solving Systems of Polynomial Equations KU Leuven
Systems of polynomial equations arise naturally from many problems in applied mathematics and engineering. Examples of such problems come from robotics, chemical engineering, computer vision, dynamical systems theory, signal processing and geometric modeling, among others. The numerical solution of systems of polynomial equations is considered a challenging problem in computational mathematics. Important classes of existing methods are ...
