Foreign competition and the reallocation of economic activity within and across firms: measuring the productivity gains and the impacts on workers KU Leuven
This thesis consists of three chapters on the influence of firms' market power on derived factor demand and the reallocation of productive resources.

Unraveling below ground competition for water between lianas and trees using stable isotopes Ghent University
Lianas potentially play an important role in the climate change response and drought vulnerability of tropical forests. However, our understanding of the role of lianas in forest functioning is limited.
This proposal aims to understand the competition for water by liana and tree roots. The underlying research question is: ‘do lianas and trees compete for the same below ground water resource?’To

Metabolic Competition between cancer and immune cells KU Leuven
Melanoma is the deadliest skin cancer. Immunotherapy is highly effective against melanoma, but only 14-50% of the patients respond. Thus, it is crucial to understand which patients will respond and how to identify them. For the majority of mechanically-ventilated patients weaning can be successfully accomplished quickly and easily, however this is not the case for 15-30% of ventilated patients. Prolonged mechanical ventilation secondary to weaning failure sacrifices a significant amount of intensive care resources, thus increasing the ...
