Vectors of a New Legal Order? Legal periodicals in continental Western-Europe during the Nazi era and its aftermath (1933-1950). Ghent University
This research project studies the networks and content of legal journals during the Nazi regime in Germany and occupied countries in Western-Europe in order to fill a gap in comparative legal history and literature sciences.
Studying legal periodicals during the 1930s and the Second World War brings important new insights into the understanding of the nexus of law and politics and the use of law as a tool in politics in an ...
Improving the prediction of language recovery in stroke patients by including risk and protective neurocognitive factors. KU Leuven
Aphasia is a language disorder most commonly caused by a cerebrovascular accident, or stroke, in the left hemisphere. Approximately 15-45% of patients in acute stroke settings have aphasia, which impairs their communication and dramatically affects their quality of life. In the first months after stroke, there is often spontaneous and intervention-induced recovery, but for 26-43% a chronic language deficit remains. To date, individual ...
Evaluation and simulation of the contact pressure in biological intercalary reconstruction surgery after bone sarcoma resection Ghent University
Bone cancer affects children and young adults and requires wide removal of bone, leaving large
defects. In order to save the limb and to restore its function in a lasting way, dead bone from bone
banks or sterilised removed bone (graft) is used to fill the defect and is fixed by plates and screws.
Still, in some patients a gap between the dead graft and the remaining living bone is seen, causing
a ...
A Reader’s Perspective on Early Christian Texts. Book Epigrams in the Byzantine Manuscript Tradition of Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite. Ghent University
The research focuses on the works of Ps-Dionysius the Areopagite (5th – 6th century). Mrs De Groot aims to examine all book epigrams in the Byzantine manuscripts of this corpus by providing a critical edition of the epigrams and analysing their relationship with the main texts of the corpus. She will also compare these poems to epigrams on other theologians of the same period.
Improving vaccine distribution supply chain design in low- and middle-income countries: a data-driven modelling approach. KU Leuven
Immunization substantially contributes to global health by saving millions of lives every year. Yet, a vast amount of people around the world, including nearly 20 to 25 million infants each year, have insufficient access to vaccines. Challenges related to the storage and distribution of vaccines persist, contributing to vaccination coverage rates that are below the required thresholds to reach herd immunity. Our research is motivated and ...

Paediatric care at the end of life: a population-based analysis using quality indicators Ghent University
Each year about 6 in every 100.000 children (aged 1-17) die of a life-threatening condition. Partly
as a result of the specific value appointed to a child’ life, treatment for these children is often
focused on cure and life prolongation until the last stages of life, even when no longer warranted
or beneficial, having an important influence on the child’ quality of life. Population-based
research ...
