The present disclosure is related to an integrated electro-optical absorption modulator. A two-dimensional (2D) material is employed for forming electrodes of the modulator, and a material with a non-zero off-diagonal electro-optic tensor coefficient may be employed for forming a waveguide core of the modulator.
