The use of metformin in the battle against chronic kidney disease and its cardiovascular complications. University of Antwerp
The high- throughput identification and validation of epigenetic biomarkers for cardiovascular disease. Ghent University
In the Western World, cardiovascular diseases (CVD) represent the most important cause of death. The interaction between aging, genetics and lifestyle in the development of CVD pints towards an epigenetic component. Therefore, a high- throughput epigenetic profiling of CVD will be performed, based on samples from the longitudinal Asklepios study. This may deepen the understanding of the molecular pathology of CVD
Conopeptides as tools for studying pacemaker channels and for the development of novel cardiovascular drugs KU Leuven
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the world, accounting for the death of 17.9 million people every year. Based on data from the World Health Organization, the total annual number of deaths from noncommunicable diseases is projected to increase to 52 million by 2030. Although genetics contributes substantially to the development of cardiovascular diseases, behavior and habits related to diet, exercise, sleep, and ...
JACARDI Joint Action on CARdiovascular Diseases and DIabetes KU Leuven
The JACARDI project aligns with the objectives of the European Union Health Programme (EU4H) by focusing on the reduction of NCDs at both individual and societal levels. It seeks to reduce the burden of CVD and DM while increasing awareness of related risks and the acceptance of innovative lifestyle interventions.
The project’s relevance extends to addressing the diverse needs of the people in Europe, harmonizing health systems, and ...
High-throughput DNA-methylation profiling of cardiovascular diseases Ghent University
In light of the enormous impact of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and clear indications for epigenetic effects, this project aims at the high-throughput identification of DNA-methylation markers involved in atherosclerosis, the principal cause of CVD. Herefore, a combination of ChIP, next-generation sequencing and high-throughput qPCR will be applied, supported by an apporopriate data-analysis, based on samples of the Asklepios study.
Exercise epigenomics: microRNA as biomarker of exercise-induced cardiovascular adaptation University of Antwerp
Machine learning to predict cardiovascular events and response to therapy based on echocardiographic-derived functional and morphological characteristics of the heart. KU Leuven
Cardiovascular disease remains a major health problem worldwide, as it is responsible for about 30% of all deaths. When diagnosing the heart, ultrasonic imaging remains the modality of choice not only due to the fact that it is non-invasive, mobile and relatively cheap but also because it can generate images in real-time and at a high rate (e.g. conventionally about 30 images/second can be generated). Although worldwide a lot of research ...
