Secondary hyperalgesia is a common symptom in certain chronic pain conditions, contributing to major psychological, social, and economical consequences. It can be experimentally induced in healthy participants using specific protocols of low, middle, and high frequency electrical stimulation.
The main objective of this doctoral research is to examine the effect of cognitive interventions on the development of experimentally induced ...
The goal of the this research is to optimize hearing aid benefit taking into account the interaction between auditory periphery and more high-order cognitive functioning. It is focused on first, hearing outcome measures leading to insights with regard to speech understanding and listening effort, and second, the fitting and users of hearing aids leading to evidence-based
recommendations.
For many, reading the first sentence of this dissertation probably takes little effort. However, this is not the case for every individual, as around 5-7 percent of the population is diagnosed with developmental dyslexia, a specific learning disability characterized by severe and persistent difficulties with accurate and fluent word decoding, and/or spelling. The origin of dyslexia is multifactorial, yet phonological processing impairments ...
Recent studies demonstrated that in bi- and multilinguals the clinical manifestations of dementia occurred more than 4 years later than in monolinguals. A possible explanation for this bilingual advantage may be related to better functioning cognitive controle mechanisms. This research proposal will investigate the underlying cognitive and language processes associated with the bilingual advantages in patients with dementia.
Cognitive radio networks constitute an important new paradigm to cope with the spectrum scarcity of modern wireless networks. The goal of the project is to model these networks with modern tools from the field of applied probability and to design control algorithms that improve
efficiency and robustness of such networks.
