Influence of gut-brain signals on psychobiological processes in healthy humans KU Leuven
The bidirectional neural and hormonal communication system between the brain and the gastrointestinal tract, known as the ‘brain-gut axis’ (BGA), is part of an integrated interoceptive system that continuously conveys homeostatic information about the physiological state of the body to the brain. The homeostatic information is integrated with exteroceptive and interoceptive signals, input from the brain reward system, and affective and ...
The role of attentional processes in monolingual and bilingual children who do and do not stutter. Ghent University
Stuttering is a multifactorial speech disorder that can develop in speakers of all languages. Left untreated, stuttering can lead to deleterious academic, emotional, social, and vocational consequences. While stuttering is known to be exhibited by monolingual speakers, stuttering is also exhibited by bilingual speakers. There is no difference in the prevalence of stuttering in speakers of one versus multiple languages, but there is a general ...
Understanding the processes underlying consumer value perceptions KU Leuven
Comparison processes in the human brain Ghent University
Every day people take decisions. Many of these decisions are the result of a comparison process. Which trousers are the cheapest? Which way is the shortest? The goal of this project is to investigate the neural basis of these comparison processes using neural network modeling and imaging techniques.
Processes underlying mono- and bilingual written word production: A computational approach based on typewriting errors Ghent University
In psycholinguistics, written production has received only limited attention compared to spoken production, especially on the word level. The goal of the current project is to build a computational model of the processes underlying written picture naming based on errors in mono- and bilingual writing. For this, I will extend the interactive two-step model of spoken word production (Dell et al., 1997) to the written modality by adding a letter ...

Perfectionism as a risk factor for eating disorders in adolescents: examining mediation processes Ghent University
Research has proven a systematic relationship between perfectionism and eating disorders. In this project we will examine the antecedent status of perfectionism in relation to eating disorders using longitudinal and experimental research. From the Self-Determination theory we also examine which mediators operate in the relationship between perfectionism and eating disorders and the influence of these factors on the therapeutic process.
Knowledge discovery for biological processes by integraing heterogeneous data sources Ghent University
In this project we want to explore how automated data mining and text mining techniques can be developed to provide researchers with automatically generated summaries to enable them to gather as much information as possible about a specific biological process or a group of genes. This project aims to use the richness of current data sources more efficiently.
