Understanding ideological bias through data-driven methods: testing cognitive social learning processes through intersectional analysis of past data (c.1800-c.1940) University of Antwerp
Cognitive, emotional, and motivational processes in relation to depressive symptoms Ghent University
Simultaneous influence of emotion and motivation on cognitive processing hasn’t been investigated in relation do depressive symptoms. This project is aimed to explore these influences in order to provide a better understanding of depression-linked cognitive biases and deficits. The project is also aimed to develop novel cognitive trainings in order to reduce biases and deficits and thus attenuate depressive symptoms.
Unravelling the puzzle of back pain chronicity: An integrative perspective on disturbed sensorimotor control and maladaptive cognitive processes Ghent University
According to a large European survey back problems are the most common cause of chronic pain [1 ]. After an
acute episode of low back pain (LBP), 60-80% of patients experience recurrence or persistence of this condition
[2]. Recurrent and chronic LBP form a major health care problem, strongly interfering with functional behavior
(disability) and quality of life, and causing important socioeconomic costs [3]. ...
Depression in early adolescence: the relationship between emotion and cognitive control processes Ghent University
In this study we suggest that executive control deficits could be an important underlying mechanism of the difficulties in information processing and the perturbed emotion regulation that characterizes MDD. Therefore it is the central goal of the current project to investigate cognitive processing of emotional material in depressed adolescents using different experimental paradigms targeting inhibition, updating, attentional control and ...
Measuring cognitive activity via EEG and eye tracking during language processing Ghent University
The psycholinguistic nature of many research lines in linguistics, translation, and experimental psychology requires systems that measure the cognitive processes underlying the use of (multiple) languages. Such equipment is very valuable and much on demand, as is clear from the number of researchers that would like to employ the combination of EEG and eye tracking. Various research goals are envisaged, such as the creation of freely available ...
Middle Childhood Attachment From a Cognitive Perspective: The role of interpretation processing biases KU Leuven
Over the years, attachment theory has demonstrated its importance for understanding relationships between children and caregivers and the impact of such relationships on future adjustment. Attachment experiences are stored in the Internal Working Model (IWM). Children who receive consistent responsive care are likely to develop a secure IWM. In contrast, those who lack responsive caregivers, most likely develop an insecure IWM. Recent ...
On the cognitive side of translation and interpreting: Process, performance, and product Ghent University
When translators and interpreters render a given text in another language, they first need to comprehend the input, then transfer its meaning, produce an output, and lastly edit the output where necessary. The aim of the current project is to glance behind the cognitive screens of translation and interpreting, creating a cognitive model of the entire rendition from input to output, while also taking into account performance and the quality ...
Bidirectional knowledge transfer between the applied research domain of process modeling and the theoretical core domain of cognitive psychology Ghent University
Observations of how people construct process representations have shed light on how people approach this task and why and when errors occur. One of the key findings is that certain techniques seem to be better than others, but no technique always outperforms the others. Therefore, the hypothesis will be examined that in order to get optimal results there needs to be a fit between the applied technique on the one hand and the task to be ...
