GigaPixel: CMOS imager scaling below wavelength limits Ghent University
This proposal elaborates methods to circumvent the current roadblocks in the silicon imager pixel scaling and targets 16X resolution scaling and 3X sensitivity scaling for future camera’s on top of CMOS. The three leading companies in CMOS camera technologies have now reached 0.7 um pixel resolution and only the most optimistic roadmap promises 0.6 um pixel size in 3 to 4 years. It is absolutely obvious that further downscaling below 0.6 um ...
CMOS imager scaling below wavelength limits. KU Leuven
1) Summary of scientific objectives
This project will develop a method that will allow to remove the barriers that currently hinder the shrinking of silicon cameras and as a result aims at a increase in resolution by a factor of 16X and increase in sensitivity by a factor of at least 3X. To achieve this, the consortium will build a structure of vertical waveguides using the most advanced CMOS technology on top of a very thin perfectly ...
ORINoCO: Optical Receivers IN standard CmOs Ghent University
Optical communication is an interesting alternative for communication over a copper wire when
speed, weight and electromagnetic immunity are considered important. If the cost of going optical
instead of staying electrical were not so high, it would probably be used in a lot more applications.
Therefore, in order to make this possible, the goal of this project is to investigate a novel concept of
implementing a full ...

Enabling high-throughput multimodal sensing in three-dimensional cell cultures using novel high-performance CMOS circuits KU Leuven
It has been shown that electrical stimulation of the visual cortex through implanted microelectrode arrays (MEAs) can create the perception of sight in visually impaired subjects. However, the current state-of-the-art electrode implants only allow the stimulation of hundreds of brain locations, which is insufficient to create a usable image of the world that can enable basic navigation or advanced sight. Advanced integrated-circuit ...

Numerical and Observational Study of Stealth CMEs KU Leuven
We begin our study by numerically investigating the influence of different triggering motions on the initiation of two consecutive CMEs. We find that changes within 1% in the shearing speed result in three different scenarios for the second CME, although the preceding eruption seems unaffected by such small variations. We thus obtain as second ejection a failed eruption, a stealth ejecta, or a CME driven by the imposed shear. We also compare ...
