A modern neuroscience approach to chronic spinal pain: pain neuroscience education combined with cognition-targeted motor control training Ghent University
In this project we want to implement a modern neuroscience approach to chronic spinal pain. The main objective is to investigate the effectiveness of modern neuroscience approach to chronic spinal pain versus evidence-based physiotherapy to reduce pain and dysfunction in patients with Flemish CSP

Chronic pain, stigma, and invalidation: the contribution of mismatches between illness models of individuals with chronic pain and healthcare practitioners. Ghent University
Stigmatization and invalidation are common in the context of chronic pain, even in healthcare encounters. The current project goes beyond present research by taking two perspectives on these dynamic processes. On the one hand a contextual perspective, which focuses on different healthcare institutions. On the other hand a temporal perspective, which focuses on pain patients’ healthcare seeking pattern over time. We expect that mismatches in ...
Pain no more: towards a better understanding and management of chronic pain KU Leuven
In the presence of harm, pain urges the organism to engage in protective actions such as avoidance behavior. In case of chronic pain, though, individuals may avoid activities (e.g., exercising) and movements (e.g., lifting heavy weights), although the chances of harm are minimal. Importantly, chronic pain has been related with elevated personal (e.g., loss of activity) and societal (e.g., treatment) costs. Despite the thick body of literature ...

Modern pain neuroscience applied to chronic pain in patients with whiplash associated disorders: Can we decrease central sensitization? Ghent University
The study aims at examining the effectiveness of a modern neuroscience approach vs. evidencebased physiotherapy for reducing pain, dysfunctioning and central sensitization in 120 patients with WAD.
The primary outcome measures are pain and functional status. Secondary outcomes include (psycho)physiological measures of central sensitization, and psychological variables. Follow-up assessments will be performed 3, 6 and 12 months after ...
