The research of our group focuses on nonequilibrium statistical physics. We deal mostly with a theoretical foundation for this theory, but also make the connection with applications in physics, biology and nano-technology. We have worked on work and fluctuation theorems (both for classical and quantum systems), microscopic theories for entropy production, thermodynamic efficiency at maximum power, stochastic thermodynamics, Brownian motors ...
Using a large panel of classical morphological techniques incl. enzyme- andimmunohistochemistry, as well as more advanced molecular techniques on tissue sections, we investigate the histology & the function of a variety of human tissues in normal & in pathological conditions.Throughout these research activities we attempt to optimise the available morphological techniques for light microscopy, electron microscopy, incl. transmission ...
The Unit of Tropical Diseases has for long been part of the Department of Clinical Sciences, under the leading of Prof. Emeritus Jef Van Den Ende. It is led now since November 2012 by Prof. Emmanuel Bottieau (MD internal medicine/infectious diseases). It has strong collaborative links with the other units of the department, in particular the Unit of Travel Medicine, of Tropical Laboratory Medicine and of the recently created Unit of ...
The research group focuses on multicenter clinical investigations of therapeutic strategies for peripheral occlusive vascular disease, aortic aneurysm disease, venous disease, lymphatic disease and vascular access. Basic research focusses on the prevention of intimal hyperplasia.
