Emulsified systems for biofuels, Assessment of their performance in diesel engines Ghent University
The problem that this proposal is focues on is the following: there are currently no adequate routes to obtain biofuel derived from VO and from the (edible) oil industry by-products, that avoid the transesterification reaction. Bringing more attractive solutions to obtain biofuels that can can be consumed inside the refining oil industry will lead to cost reductions, pollution decrease and a better power quality. We already have the links ...
Sustainability insights in the development of advanced biofuels KU Leuven
The transport sector is responsible for a quarter of all greenhouse gas emissions in Europe. Although electrification of the light-duty segment is ramping up, renewable fuels are essential to further decarbonize the transport sector, in particular the heavy-duty, shipping, and aviation segments. The goal of this PhD is to gain insights into the sustainability of emerging advanced biofuels, and in the role of sustainability assessment in the ...
ADV_BIO: Technological innovation in the production of advanced biofuels applicable to the Belgian territory for road and air transport and techno-economic and environmental analyses Ghent University
This project aims to develop innovative ways of producing advanced (bio)fuels from microalgae and lignocellulosic matrices for road or air transport and applicable on national territory. This project focuses on the development of innovative and competitive technological production schemes in order to position Belgium as a differentiated strategic partner and player for the eco-efficient production of advanced alternative (bio)fuels of second ...

Techno-economic assessment of the thermochemical conversion of Cuban sugar cane lignocellulosic residues into liquid biofuels. Ghent University
In this project, the techno-economic feasibility of conversion of bagasse and sugarcane agricultural residues into biofuels by means of fast pyrolysis, is assessed and tailored to the country-specific situation of Cuba. The purpose is to evaluate an integrated sugarcane processing/fast pyrolysis plant where biofuels production is effectively decoupled from its application in high efficiency boilers and diesel engines.
The use of biofuels according to international law: a comparison between the EU and Chinese implementation Ghent University
Biofuels, as renewable energy source, can contribute to the reduction of green house gas emissions, but also have an effect on the food production and forest management. In this research the implementation by the EU and China of international rules on biofuels, such as those in the Climate Change Convention, the Kyoto Protocol, the Convention on Biodiversity and decision-making by the Food and Agriculture Organization will be assessed.
Advanced Liquid Biofuels for advanced engine concepts enabled by advanced wood breeding and catalysis. KU Leuven
AD LIBIO is a fundamental research project to stock high-density renewable energy in stable liquid biofuels. The project aspires to new biopetrol from locally refined wood, rich in cellulose, through inventive biorefinery. The biopetrol is ideal for blending in classic fuels, and will eventually also be able to be used integrally in ultra-pure combustion engines for applications that are difficult to electrify. Profitability, quality and ...
Advanced Liquid Biofuels for advaced engine concepts enabled by advanced wood breeding and catlysis Ghent University
AD LIBIO is a fundamental research project within AS 1 to store renewable energy with high density in liquid biofuels. The project aims for new biogasoline from locally refined wood, rich in cellulose, through an inventive bio-refining. The biogasoline is ideal for admixture in conventional fuels, and will eventually also be able to be used in its entirety in ultra-pure combustion engines for difficult electrification applications. ...
