Pathomechanistic study of biglycan mutations in aortopathy development. University of Antwerp
Replacement of N-glycan analysis equipment Ghent University
N-glycan analysis by capillary electrophoresis-laser induced fluorescence detection on DNA-sequencers was originally developed in the Callewaert lab and has evolved to a standard technology in glycobiological research. Thousands of samples are analysed annually in our laborator, for our own research and for that of several UGent colleagues in multiple faculties, for example for diagnostics research and for investigations on glycoprotein ...
Intensified process for the simultaneous recovery of chitosan and β-glucan from fungal biomass (FungiWave) KU Leuven
Glycan structure-mediated targeted delivery of therapeutic enzymes and cytokines Ghent University
We propose in this project to produce variants (glycoforms) of therapeutic proteins linked to very specific sugar structures (N-glycans).
Through the structure of these glycans, it is possible to target the therapeutic proteins to the exact location in the body where they are
needed to exert their therapeutic function. The project builds on the previous and ongoing development in our laboratory of yeast-based
production ...
Improved respiratory syncytial virus (rsv) vaccines based on glycan modification of the viral fusion (f) protein. University of Antwerp
Zebrafish as a Model for Glycosylation Defects. Fishing for the Role of TMEM165 KU Leuven
Customized glycosylation engineering to enhance lysosomal enzyme delivery to muscle tissue in congenital and acquired lysosomal dysfunction. Ghent University
Our laboratory has pioneered the design of yeast-based expression systems for the production of biopharmaceuticals that can be modified with endolysosome-targeting glycans (glycans highly substituted with mannose-6-phosphate). Furthermore, we have recently developed the GlycoDelete technology, which can convert N-glycans in pharmacokinetics-neutral small structures and which at the same time leads to enhanced secretion of lysosomal enzymes ...
N-glycans in plant cells, and their interaction with nucleocytoplasmic lectins Ghent University
At present the focus of the work is on elucidating the physiological role of nucleocytoplasmic lectins in plant cells. In order to do so we need to know what are the interacting partners for these lectins and what carbohydrate structures that are recognized by the lectins. In this project the focus will be on characterizing the glycans in plant cells.
N-glycosylation of insect proteins and physiological importance in development of the hemimetabolous sap-sucking model insect Nilaparvata lugens Ghent University
In animals, glycoproteins are known to be important for a multitude of biological processes such as cell signaling, immunological recognition and the unique process of insect metamorphosis. However, our knowledge of insect glycoproteins is limited and is restricted to the model insect Drosophila melanogaster. In this project, we will study the N-glycosylation of proteins in the hemimetabolous sap-sucking brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens. ...
